Gas Jobs Still Plentiful

Gas Jobs are still plentiful, even in today's economy.

The Oil and Gas Industry is always needing both skilled and unskilled workers. There are plenty of Gas Jobs available today, since 2 hurricanes went through the Gulf Of Mexico this year. So, what kind of Gas Jobs are available? There are many categories of skilled and unskilled Gas Jobs in the Gulf Of Mexico but, one area is the easiest to get your "foot in the door". These Gas Jobs are service related and are in the Catering.

Catering is one of the easiest Gas Jobs to get. Every boat, barge, platform, and drilling rig have personnel that do the cooking and cleaning. This makes it easy for anyone looking to work in the Oil Industry to start here. Cooking and cleaning offshore is just the same as everywhere else. Now, since these Gas Jobs are basically the same as there land based counterparts, the pay scale is on of the lowest of all Gas Jobs. These jobs have their benefits though. They allow a person to get information on other companies that have more skilled and higher paying Gas Jobs. Most companies in the Oil Industry look at galley help to find their new entry level employees. If you are just starting out looking for Gas Jobs, then catering will allow you to get paid to do your job search. There are two main areas in the catering field, utility hands and cooks.

A Utility Hand is the easiest of all Gas Jobs to get. All that is required is that you know how to do basic cleaning, be able bodied, and be able to follow directions. The pay rate for a typical Utility Hand is around $650.00 per week. A Utility Hand can be washing dishes, doing laundry, making beds, or cleaning bathrooms. The work is fairly easy and one of the benefits is that you are working inside all the time, so you are not exposed to the weather. A Utility Hand is always around the supervisors of a job because he or she is cleaning their rooms or serving their food etc.. This make it one of the best Gas Jobs for people who are wanting to advance their career in the Oil Industry.

Offshore Cooks are some of the most respected and most ridiculed of all Gas Jobs. They plan and prepare all the food and the desserts for their job. Also, cooks are in charge of all catering personnel on a job. This means they are getting management experience. Cooks have a pay range of $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 per week depending on the size of the job. It takes someone with a lot of patience to be a cook because he or she is the person who is always dealing with the minor problems on the job.

Now, before you decide this is for you there are a few things you need to know about what happens on these Gas Jobs. First, on all Gas Jobs you will be away from your family. Most places have phone and Internet access now. You may find yourself disconnected from friends and family for weeks at a time. Second, you will be working at least a 12 hour shift. Almost all Gas Jobs work 7 days a week and 12 hours per shift. This can get tiring if you plan to stay on a job for over 2 weeks. 2 weeks is the typical "hitch" for Gas Jobs but you can work longer on most sites. Finally, you will need all personal items to last the whole "hitch". There are no stores offshore. The good thing is that all of your meals and lodging will be free while you are working so that is a great savings over a regular job.

Thanks and good luck on your Gas Jobs search.
